‘New Classification of Drugs Table.’Being Aware of Illusion (Maya Mind). Everything is a Meditation…The House of Commons Science and Technology Select CommitteeCondemns the existing illegal drug classification system, saying it’sbased on ‘ad hockery and conservatism’ and should be scrapped.It proposes replacing it with a whole new scale that would ratesubstances purely on the basis of health and social risks involvedin taking them. Systems now don’t tell us how dangerous or not thedrugs actually are. “The present approach owes more to Fear thanto reason.” It would also make it more immune from cynicalPolitical grandstanding. Britain’s antiquated drugs laws standaccused of failing millions of people because they bear little or norelationship to the harm caused by everything from a hit of heroin,to a seemingly harmless pint of lager. The Home Office has beenadvised by its own senior advisers that alcohol and tobacco aremore harmful than the class A drugs of LSD and Ecstasy.“This shows why we need a radical overhaul of the currentclassifications which are riddled with anomalies and clearly notfit for purpose” Copies of the report have been submitted to theHome Office which has failed to act on the conclusions.
